Abstract

This research seeks new assessment alternatives that involve the use of short videos (reels) with artificial intelligence in a way that enhances students' knowledge and professional development. The study focuses on the implementation of artificial intelligence tools in assessment for students in higher education. The research is descriptive and qualitative; that is, it describes and explores experiences, perceptions, and behaviors related to the use of AI-powered short video (reel) creation. The analysis centers on a case study with twelve students in the Political Science II course at Hosanna University, a virtual program for Bachelor of Laws and Political Science students. They created reels to develop political narratives using Fliki, InVideo, and Pictory, while also exploring the possibility of using other applications that might suit the task. Videos in education offer an opportunity for new teaching methods, demonstrating that traditional teaching and assessment methodologies are often less engaging for students. More modern assessment systems can lead to greater student engagement and increased participation in learning interactions. Using AI-powered assessments enhances students' knowledge, particularly in the context of the world they will face. Utilizing innovative technologies, often unfamiliar to them, improves knowledge acquisition. These digital skills are accompanied by the development of creativity, teamwork, and a sense of personal accomplishment.
