Abstract

This article aims to critically analyze the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in university education, highlighting its global, pedagogical, and contextual dimensions. Based on the theoretical foundations of constructivism, connectivism, and collaborative learning, it addresses the principles that support the implementation of virtual learning environments (VLE) as meaningful educational strategies. Methodologically, a theoretical reflection essay was developed through documentary review and critical analysis of updated academic sources, in order to identify trends, challenges, and proposals for the adoption of ICT in university contexts. The results of the analysis reveal inequalities in technological adoption linked to institutional, sociocultural, and economic factors, as well as the need to design intentional pedagogical proposals that promote autonomy, interaction, and active student participation in digital environments. It is concluded that the effective implementation of ICT in higher education does not depend solely on technological infrastructure, but on its articulation with solid pedagogical approaches and comprehensive institutional policies that consider local particularities. Finally, recommendations are proposed for the development of teaching strategies and evaluation frameworks that allow assessing the real impact of ICT on university learning, contributing to educational transformation in the digital age.
