Higher education in Panamá, a LOOK AT CODES OF PROFESSIONAL ETHICS

Abstract

"Man, in order not to be social, would need to be a beast or a God." Aristotle. We are reflective beings who live in society, in which evaluating our behavior is a fundamental and necessary part of trying to live together harmoniously and pursue happiness. Therefore, as homo sapiens we think and reason, differentiating ourselves from animals and thus achieving the construction of professional codes of ethics, thanks to our own collective rationality. The objective of this work has been to reflect on the origin and importance of the Codes of Ethics in Higher Education in Panama, carrying out an investigation from their origins, their evolution, implementation to the present day through different bibliographic sources, from which we have compiled a large number of information, allowing a deep and updated reflection to our times on the interpretation of ethics, without losing its true essence that adjusts to our lawful behavior of our acts; in this case, adjusted to the teaching and learning of the different protagonists that make up Higher Education. The objective of this reflective and descriptive research is based on knowing the origin of ethics, if we are social beings do, we require ethics? As individuals we can only stick to what society imposes through morality and custom or, as individuals of free will, are we capable of reflecting introspectively on our decisions and actions?
